1. Safety

This instruction manual describes general safety instructions and precautions for the safe operation, inspection, regular maintenance, installation, relocation, transportation, disassembly or repair of this machine.

Before using this machine, carefully read this manual and fully understand these instructions.

The caution and warning labels, which are attached on the machine and described in this manual, are defined as follows. The safety-related cautions, warnings and signals are marked with “!” to attract special attention.

!DANGER
This mark indicates very dangerous parts where failure to follow the instructions indicated on the labels will very likely cause death or serious injuries.

!WARNING
This mark indicates potentially dangerous parts where failure to follow the instructions may lead to death or serious injuries.

!CAUTION
This mark indicates potentially dangerous parts where failure to follow the instructions may cause moderate or light injuries.

!IMPORTANT
This indicates food sanitation-related cautions.

This mark indicates things that must not be done.
NOTE This mark indicates important notices, precautions or notes related to the performance or service life of the machine.

Be sure to follow the instructions regarding the safety issues described in this manual. It should be noted, however, that this manual does not cover all safety-related matters, and users must observe a high degree of precaution at all times when handling this machine. Take full responsibility for your actions when operating or maintaining this machine.


1.1 General Safety Instructions

!Be Sure To Follow Safety Instructions.

  • Carefully read and fully understand all the warnings and cautions described in this manual and indicated on the warning or caution labels attached on the machine.
  • Keep the warning labels clean and easily readable.
  • If any warning label is damaged or lost, immediately request EMURA FOOD MACHINE for a new one and attach it to the same position.
  • Be sure to follow safety instructions and precautions.

!Do Not Use This Machine To Cut Anything Other Than Food.

  • This machine is designed to cut food materials, mainly vegetables, into fine dice. Do not use it to cut materials other than food.
  • For cutting food materials not mentioned in this manual, consult with EMURA FOOD MACHINE CO.

!Do Not Modify This Machine.

  • Do not modify this machine.
    Do not remove the magnetic proximity switches.
  • If you modify this machine or remove some parts from it, we do not guarantee the performance and safety of this machine.

!Put On Safe Clothing.

  • Avoid wearing oversized or unbuttoned clothing, neckties, scarves, or similar accessories; such clothing can easily catches in a moving part or a rotary portion of the machine, and cause serious injury.

!Put On Sanitary Tools.

  • During food processing operations, put on
    a sanitary cap, gloves, mask and other tools
    that are suitable for proper hygiene.

!Impact of External Noise

  • Some parts of this machine are controlled with low level electric currents.
    Thunder or external noise sources (cellular phones, etc) may cause improper operating signals on the display panel.

!IMPORTANT Keep The Work Environment Clean And Sanitary.

  • Install the machine in a bright and clean place.
  • Keep all food material in clean containers.
  • When washing or peeling food materials, be careful to prevent contaminants from adhering to them. Foreign contaminants may chip the cutter.
  • Be sure to clean and rinse the machine before and after each use. Rotten food materials remaining in the machine may cause food poisoning.
  • For lubrication around the cutter, be sure to use the special food processing oil (delivered with the machine).

!Caution During Movement and Transportation

  • Before moving the machine, turn off the circuit breaker and disconnect the attachment plug.
  • When moving or transporting the machine, be careful to keep the machine from falling because its center of gravity is high.

1.2 Precautions in Handling Cutters

!WARNING

  • When attaching/detaching the round blade assembly and crosscutting blade assembly, be sure to use the cutter holder.
  • Touching the blade edge may cause serious injury.

!WARNING

  • When attaching or detaching the plain blade, be sure to attach the plain cover.
  • Touching the blade edge may cause serious injury.

!WARNING

  • When attaching/detaching the blade assembly or when sharpening the cutters, be careful not to touch the blade edge.
  • Improper handling of cutters and blades may cause serious injury.

!CAUTION

  • Carefully handle the cutters. If a cutter cracks or chips, the chip may become mixed in the processed food and cause serious injury.
  • Do not use any cracked or chipped cutter.

!IMPORTANT Keep The Work Environment Clean And Sanitary.

  • When any unusual noise occurs, immediately stop the machine, turn off the circuit breaker, and carefully inspect the cutter.
  • When operating the machine for extended periods, or when cutting hard materials, stop the machine occasionally and inspect the cutter.

1.3 Precautions for Cleaning and Rinsing the Machine

!WARNING

  • Before cleaning or rinsing the machine, be sure to turn off the circuit breaker and disconnect the attachment plug. For installing the circuit breaker, refer to 2.4 on P.2-2.
  • Cleaning or rinsing the machine before turning off the circuit breaker and disconnecting the attachment plug may lead to serious injury and may damage the machine.

!CAUTION

  • Be careful not to leave a scrubbing brush or any other tool in the hopper or impeller. If any tool or brush is left inside, damage to the machine may occur.

!CAUTION

  • Select an appropriate cutter for the required cutting size and properly attach it on the machine. (Refer to 3.13.3 “Attachment of Blade Assembly” on P.3-12.)

!CAUTION

  • Make sure that the cutter is not chipped or cracked.

NOTE

  • A blade cover is attached on the plain blade in the machine at the time of delivery to protect the blade edge.
  • Be sure to carefully remove the cover before starting operations.
  • Operations with the cover attached may damage the machine.

1.4 Precautions for Operation

!CAUTION

  • To avoid serious injury, never put your hand into the material outlet during operations.

!DANGER

  • Don’t remove the safe plate during operations.
  • Although the machine is designed to stop when the safe plate is removed, serious injury may result in operating the machine while the safe plate is removed.

!DANGER

  • To avoid serious injury, do not put your hand into the hopper under any circumstance during operations.

!DANGER

  • To avoid serious injury, do not perform operations with the drum swing opened. Also, don’t put your hand into the opening.

!WARNING

  • When the discharge bucket is not in place, do not operate the machine. To avoid serious injury, do not insert your hand into the opening behind the discharge bucket.
  • The machine is designed to stop when the discharge bucket is removed, but be careful not to handle the machine while it is turned on and the discharge bucket is removed.

1.5 Precautions for Maintenance and Service

!WARNING

  • Before cleaning, inspecting, adjusting, repairing or disassembling the machine, stop the machine and turn off the circuit breaker (refer to 2.4 “Power Supply” on P.2-2) and disconnect the attachment plug.
  • If the machine is activated during such work, you may be seriously injured.

!CAUTION

  • When rinsing the machine with water, be careful to prevent water from splashing onto the motor, switch box, and attachment plug.
  • If electric parts are exposed to water or moisture, insulation failure may occur, causing a short circuit or fire.
  • If any waterproof cap or seal is damaged, immediately replace it with a new one.
