1. Safety

This instruction manual describes general safety instructions and precautions for the safe operation, inspection, maintenance, installation, relocation, transportation, and overhaul of this machine.

Before using this machine, carefully read this manual and fully understand these instructions.

The caution and warning labels, which are attached on the machine and described in this manual, are defined on the next page. The safety-related cautions, warnings and signals are marked with “!” to attract special attention.

The following marks are used to denote the safety precautions described in this manual and the warning labels attached on the machine.

!DANGER
This mark indicates very dangerous parts where failure to follow the instructions indicated on the labels will very likely cause death or serious injuries.

!WARNING
This mark indicates potentially dangerous parts where failure to follow the instructions may possibly cause death or serious injuries.

!CAUTION
This mark indicates potentially dangerous parts where failure to follow the instructions may cause injuries.

!IMPORTANT
This indicates food sanitation-related cautions.

This mark indicates things that must not be done.
NOTE This mark indicates important notices, precautions or notes related to the performance or service life of the machine.

Be sure to follow the instructions regarding the safety issues described in this manual. It should be noted, however, that this manual does not cover all safety-related matters, and users must observe a high degree of precaution at all times when handling this machine. Operate or maintain this machine safely and take full responsibility for your actions.


1.1 General Safety Instructions

!Be Sure To Follow Safety Instructions.

  • Carefully read and fully understand all the warnings and cautions described in this manual and indicated on the warning or caution labels attached on the machine.
  • Keep the warning labels clean and easily readable.
  • If any warning label is damaged or lost, immediately request a new one from EMURA and attach it to the same position.
  • Be sure to follow safety instructions and precautions.

!Caution During Move and Transportation

  • Before moving the machine, turn off the circuit breaker.And disconnect the attachment plug.
  • Remove the touch switch assembly from the machine.
  • When moving or transporting the machine, be careful to prevent the machine from falling because its center of gravity is high.

!Do Not Use This Machine To Cut Anything Other Than Food.

  • This machine is designed to cut or shred food materials. Do not use it to cut materials other than food.
  • For cutting food materials not mentioned in this manual, contact EMURA FOOD MACHINE CO.

!Do Not Modify This Machine.

  • Do not modify this machine.Do not remove the magnetic proximity switches, touch switches, or protective covers.
  • If you modify this machine or remove some parts from it, we cannot guarantee the machine’s performance or safety.

!Put On Protective Clothing.

  • Do not put on oversize or unbuttoned clothing, neckties, scarves, or accessories during operations; such clothing could easily catch in a moving part or a rotary portion of the machine, and result in serious injuries.

!Put On Sanitary Equipment.

  • During food processing operations, put on the sanitary cap, gloves, mask and other suitablehygienic tools.

!Impact of External Noise

  • Some parts of this machine are controlled by low level electric currents.
  • Thunder or external noise sources (cellular phones, etc) may cause improper operating signals on the operating panel display.
  • If a problem arises in the panel display, press the power-off button, and reset the panel.

!IMPORTANTKeep The Work Environment Clean And Sanitary.

  • Install the machine in a bright and clean place.
  • Put all food materials and processed food in clean containers.
  • When washing or peeling food materials, be careful prevent sand or other contaminants from adhering to them. Foreign materials may chip or crack the cutters.
  • Be sure to clean and rinse the machine before and after use of it. Rotten food materials remaining in the machine may cause food poisoning.
  • For lubrication around the cutter, be sure to use the special food processing oil delivered with the machine.

1.2 Precautions in Handling Cutters

!WARNING

  • When attaching/detaching the cutter assembly and the blades for disk cutters or when sharpening the cutters, be careful not to touch the cutting edge with your hand or finger.
  • Improper handling of cutters and blades may result in serious injury.

!IMPORTANT

  • When any unusual noise occurs, immediately stop the machine with the Stop button and safely inspect the cutter.
  • When performing lengthy operations or when cutting hard materials, stop the machine occasionally to safely inspect the cutter.

!CAUTION

  • Carefully handle the cutters. If a cutter cracks or chips, the chip could become mixed in the processed food and cause serious injury.
  • Do not use any cracked or chipped cutter.

1.3 Precautions for Preparation before Operation

!WARNING

  • Before cleaning or rinsing the machine, be sure to turn off the circuit breaker and disconnect the attachment plug. For installing the circuit breaker, refer to 2.5 “Power Supply.”
  • Cleaning or rinsing the machine before turning off the circuit breaker and disconnecting the attachment plug may lead to serious injury and may damage the machine.

!CAUTION

  • Be careful not to leave a scrubbing brush or any tool on the conveyor after the preparation work. If any tool or brush is left inside, damage to the machine or cutters may occur.
  • Remove the top cover and check that the upper conveyor is properly engaged with the universal joint. Improper engagement can cause damage to gears and other parts.

!CAUTION

  • Check for cracking or chipping of the cutter.
  • Do not use the cracked or chipped cutter.
  • Securely tighten the blade holding countersunk screw.

!CAUTION

  • Select the proper “Cutter,” “Mode,” and “Size” corresponding to the materials to be cut, and properly set the accessory parts in accordance with the instructions indicated on the foldout pages (“Standard Types of Slicing & Settings for the Machine”, and” How to Cut Materials with Optional Disk Cutters”) in this manual.

1.4 Precautions for Operation

!DANGER

  • To avoid serious injury, never put your hand into the bottom outlet opening during operations.
  • Although touching the switch bar (touch switch) is designed to stop the machine, be careful not to handle the machine when the circuit breaker is on.

!DANGER

  • To avoid serious injury, do not touch the conveyors under any circumstance during operations.

!DANGER

  • To avoid serious injury, do not open the top cover during operations.
  • Although the machine is designed to stop when the top cover is opened, do not handle the machine while the circuit breaker is switched on.

!WARNING

  • When the upper conveyor cover is not in place, do not operate the machine. Also, do not insert your hand into the opening.
  • Although the machine is designed to stop when the upper conveyor cover is removed, do not handle the machine while the circuit breaker is switched on.

!WARNING

  • To avoid serious injury, do not open the front door during operations.
  • Although the machine is designed to stop when the front door is opened, do not handle the machine while the circuit breaker is switched on.

!WARNING

  • Do not insert your hand into the space between the protective cover and the upper conveyor during operations.

1.5 Precautions for Maintenance and Service

!WARNING

  • To avoid injury, before cleaning, inspecting, adjusting, repairing or disassembling the machine, stop the machine and turn off the circuit breaker (refer to 2.5 “Power Supply”) and disconnect the attachment plug.

!CAUTION

  • When rinsing the machine with water, be careful to prevent water from splashing onto the motor, inverter box, operating panel, attachment plug, touch switch, etc.
  • If electric parts are exposed to water or moisture, malfunctions may occur, causing a short circuit or a fire.
  • If a waterproof pack or seal is damaged, immediately replace it with a new one.
